COVID-19 Diary – Day 45

I want to give a special shout out to an upcoming event: Free Comic Book Day 2020 – the Home Edition! (It’s for this Saturday). Every year Free Comic Book Day is a pretty big deal for comic book stores, it’s kind of like their black Friday or boxing day. It’s a day to attract new customers, sell back-stock, and throw some crazy sales.

Sadly due to COVID-19, comic shops won’t be able to have their usual Free Comic Book Day event this year… At least not in the conventional way. Metropolis Comics and Toys is working on their own solution to the problem, and I hope you’ll take a look and give it a chance. I will definitely be partaking in their delivery service myself.

In less happy news, the Nutella plant in Ontario has had to shut down after 7 workers tested positive for the virus. The plant will reopen “when it is appropriate to do so”. But in the meantime, you may want to ration your Nutella. More info can be found here.

And in international COVID-19 related news, the US may be intentionally covering up their virus related death numbers. I know that sounds like a conspiracy theory, but there is real science to back it up, according to the US CDC. More info can be found here.

There have also been reports that Florida medical examiner’s have been told to stop releasing deaths data, which regularly conflicted with the official numbers coming from the state health department. It may have something to do with Florida’s efforts to reopen the state as soon as possible. You can read more about it here.

As for us here in BC, we are expecting to hear plans for how hair dressers and other affected businesses could begin to reopen, in the coming week. This is not to say those plans will be put into action anytime soon, but it’s good to know they’re starting to think about how it could be done safely. I’m sure there will be more official info on this to come!

That’s all for now, stay safe everyone!
