COVID-19 Diary – Day 232

Antibody Tests Now Available in BC

Did you experience COVID-like symptoms earlier in the year but were refused an opportunity to get a PCR swab test at the time? You may be interested in a new service now being offered by Life Labs, COVID-19 antibody testing! Many people have been looking for this opportunity for months, and while the service isn’t free it will likely come as a relief to many.

The test costs $75 for BC residents (as it is an elective procedure), and requires your healthcare provider to sign off on it. Results become available 3-5 days after your sample is collected. If you would like to learn more or begin the process of getting tested, click here.

Canadian’s Must Reduce Contacts by 25%

Dr. Teresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, has released new modelling info for Canada and is now stressing that Canadians must reduce their contacts by 25% to curb the second wave of COVID-19 we are currently in.

Modelling info released today shows that Canada is on course to have up to 262,000 total COVID-19 cases, and as many as 10,400 related deaths, by November 8th if nothing is changed. Of course, predicting this virus has proven very difficult so far, but it usually wise to take a cautious approach.

Pfizer Vaccine Candidate Expected Soon in Britain

Senior sources within the British Government are expecting Pfizer’s vaccine candidate’s results to be available perhaps as early as this November, in advance of the competing vaccine candidate from Moderna. This may lead to the vaccine being available in Britain (through emergency use authorization) by Christmas even. This Pfizer vaccine candidate is one of the 6 vaccines being developed that Canada has a supply agreement for as well.

That’s all for now, stay safe everyone!
